John Wake was of Salcey Forest.
Portbury Priory, eight miles from Clevedon, was bought by Robert Goodwin and passed to his only daughter and heir, Margaret, and John Wake after their wedding. The manor of Portbury Priors had been granted to Robert in 1542/3 by King Henry VIII.
