ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Henry succeeded his father as hereditary Constable of England.  He inherited the principal estates of the former Earls of Hereford through his paternal grandmother.  He was created Earl of Hereford at Porchester on 28th April 1200.  He was one of the 25 barons appointed to secure the observance of Magna Carta in 1215, and after the death of King John, supported Louis de France when he invaded England.  He was taken prisoner at the battle of Lincoln on 20th May 1217.
Henry's wife, Maud of Essex, is also known as Matilda de Mandeville - her father was Geoffrey FitzPiers, Earl of Essex and mother Beatrice de Say.  Geoffrey FitzPiers married secondly Aveline de Clare.  You can link to this second marriage and family as they appear on the shared tree.
