|Thomas GODDARD||Thomas WALROND|

|Richard GODDARD||Elizabeth WALROND|
Richard Goddard was also known as Richard of Upham and Swindon
Elizabeth Walrond came from Aldbourne, Wilts
Richard and Elizabeth resided in a handsome mansion at Upham, which had belonged to John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster
Richard left a will dated 13/11/1614 at Upham, Aldbourne which was proved on 08/05/1615
1st Child - Thomas Goddard of Upham married Jane daughter of Sir Edmund Fetiplace of Childrey in Berks. It is possible that their effigy, together with that of their 4 children, sits in the church in the South Transept otherwise known as the Goddard Chapel. The six figures were probably brought from elsewhere and placed on the tomb which, with its two niches, seems designed for only two figures.
Near this effigy is a brass in the floor of
Richard Goddard of Upham and his wife Elizabeth. This Richard lived in the
15th century and was a benefactor of the church - in 1460 he helped to provide
the church tower. In 1488 he presented the Tenor Bell which bears a Latin
"The voice of Michael's Bell tolls from the sky. God be merciful to the souls of Richard Goddard, formerly of Upham, of Elizabeth and Elizabeth his wives, and the souls of all their children and their parents who caused this Bell to be made in the year of our Lord 1516"
How this Richard is connected into the Goddard family is unknown
2nd Child - Elizabeth may have been born in 1588. She married Ludovici Pollard De
3rd Child - Edward was christened on 11/10/1590 and became known as Edward Goddard of Inglesham (Berks)
4th Child - Richard married Anne the widow of John Danvers of Bolden in Oxfordshire.
