ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Tanner line around this period becomes difficult to prove as no marriage for Dominic has been found and no baptisms for his children. The court records below confirm however that David is the son of Dominic and the age of David lines up with the information on David's tombstone. This may not be the same Dominick as the one Baptised in 1705 with parents Benjamin and Jone. An earlier marriage for "Beniamin Taner to Jone Littell" in Corsham on 27/01/1701 and a baptism of "Mary Tanner ye daughter of Beniamin" also in Corsham on 18/01/1703 could indicate that Dominick had a late baptism and was the son of the first marriage. He is still very young to have a child David in 1717.
We are therefore very uncertain about the family links given in the table above.

The Court of the Manor of Colerne met on 28th September 1723 and the following has been translated from the original which is in Latin:

Also to this court came Dominick Tanner and took outside of the hands of the Lords by the hand of the aforesaid Steward one Tenement Curtillage Barn Garden and small Close containing one acre (more or less) with appurtenances situate and lying in the aforesaid Colerne within the aforesaid Manor being parcel of a Tenement and half Virgate land called Funces with their appurtenances now in the tenure of the aforesaid Stephen Shewring as by Roll of this Court more fully appears To whom the same Dominic the Lords by their aforesaid Steward did grant and deliver Thus thereafter Seisin by the Rod To Have the aforesaid Tenement and other aforesaid premisses with their appurtenances the same Dominic Tanner and David Tanner aged six years son of the aforesaid Dominic for and during the full term of their natural life of whichever of them live longer successively To hold of the Lords by the Rod at the will of the Lords according to the customs of the aforesaid Manor Paying thereafter to the Lords by the year xviii d Heriot when it shall befall and performing all other services burthens and customs thereafter before by right due and accustomed And the aforesaid Dominic gave to the Lords for a Fine for such an Entrance and Estate So thereafter to be had iii L And he was admitted to the premisses as tenant and did to the Lords his fealty But admission and fealty of the aforesaid David were respited until another time

The Court of the Manor of Colerne met again on 14th October 1749 and the following is a transcription.

Also they present & say that Dominick Tanner who held to himself for the term of his natural life of the Lords by Copy of Court Roll according to custom of the said Manor One Tenement Curtilage Barn Garden & One small Close containing one Acre (more or less) and five Acres of arable land with their appurten[an]ces situate & lying in Colerne aforesd within the Manor aforesd Being parcel of a Tenement & half a yard land called Funces with the appurten[an]ces late in the tenure of Stephen Shewring (as by the roll of a Court here holden the 28th day of Septr 1723 more fully may appear before this Court & since the last Court dyed seized thereof whence came to the Lords for a Heriot in money by agreement for this time xxis And that David Tanner is next in revercon to the Premisses by reason of a Grant to him thereof made the said 28th day of Septr 1723 By which He desired to be admitted to the Premisses To which the said David the Lords by the said Stew[ar]d did grant & deliver Seisin thereof by the rod To have the said Tenement & the rest of the Premisses aforesd with their appurten[an]ces unto him the said David Tanner for & during the term of his natural life To hold of the Lords by the rod at the will of the Lords according to the custom of the said Manor Paying therefore to the Lords by the year xviijd a Heriot when it shall happen And doing & performing All other Services burthens & customs thence before due & of Right accustomed And the said David was admitted Tenant to the Premisses and did to the Lords his fealty

Also at this Court the Lords by the said Steward did grant unto David Tanner the younger aged three years old Son of the said David Tanner the revercon of the said one Tenement Curtilage Barn Garden & one small Close containing one Acre (more or less) and five Acres of Arable land with their appruten[an]ces situate & lying in Colerne Aforesd within the Manor aforesd (Being parcel of a Tenement & half a yard Land called Funces with the appurten[an]ces late in the tenure of Stephen Shewring ) now in the tenure of the said David Tanner To have the said Tenement & the rest of the Premisses aforesd with their appurten[an]ces unto the said David Tanner the younger for the term of his natural life Immediately when by Death Surrender Forfeiture or by any other ways or means it shall happen to come into the hands of the Lords To hold of the Lords by the rod at the will of the Lords according to the custom of the said Manor Paying therefore to the Lords by the year xviijd a Heriot when it shall happen And doing & performing All other Services burthens & customs thence before due & of right accustomed And the said David by his father gave to the Lords for a Fine for such an Estate & Entrance thereof so to be had iijll xs But his admission and Fealty were respited until it shall happen
