Humphrey succeeded his father as Lord of Trowbridge, Wiltshire. He was appointed Constable of England in about 1172.
Margaret, his wife, was also known as Margaret of Huntingdon. It was her second marriage having previously been married to Conan IV Duke of Normandy who died in 1171.
