John became the second Baronet of Hartwell on the death of his father Baldwin in 1628.
After the death of his first wife Bridget, John married Anne Brokesby of Frisby in Leicestershire. She was a widow with one child, but there were no children of this marriage.
John sold his manors at Clevedon and Portbury on 10 August 1630 to Sir John Digby, Earl of Bristol.
Sir John Wakes's will was dated 01/10/1656 and was proved on 24/01/1658/9 (These dates need checking!). He is buried in the chancel of Piddington Church.
