Sir Thomas of Brotherton was Lord of Striguil and Nether Gwent, Monmouthshire. In 1310 he was assigned the estates of Roger Bigod, late Earl of Norfolk, jointly with his brother Edmund, by their brother Edward II. He was created Earl of Norfolk on 16/12/1312. He was created Marshal of England on 10/02/1315/6. During the King's absence in Scotland in 1319 he was left as Keeper of England.
