Owain was born around 1100 and became King of Gwynedd. About 1152 he changed his title to Prince of Gwynedd.
Owain's first marriage was to Gwladus. Later he married Crisiant, daughter of Gronw ap Owain, his first cousin and they had two children - Dafydd and Rhodri. He also had several mistresses by which he had at least six children.
