ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The birth dates for the children in the table above are taken from the Family Bible which belonged to Mary Ann Alderman. There is probably an error in the date given for Elizabeth - see below.  Pictures of the Bible can be seen by following this link.

The date in the Family Bible for Elizabeth's birth is given as 30/06/1830.  This conflicts with the baptism date of 27/06/1830 at Hardenhuish P C.  Information received from Mary Alderman in Canada (the granddaughter of Joseph Alderman) says that Elizabeth was born on 08/06/1830.

Eliza was baptised at Slaughterford on 21st October 1832 'Eliza - daughter of Philip and Rachel - Alderman - Slaughterford - Labourer'.  She married John Cleverly after the death of his first wife.  Information on this family can be seen by clicking on this link
Jesse (child no. 4) died at the age of 2 years on 07/03/1840 at Box.  The cause of death is given on the certificate as inflammation of the chest.
Philip (child no. 5) died at the age of 2 years on 10/03/1840 at Box.  The cause of death is given on the certificate as inflammation of the chest.
Both Philip and Jesse were buried at Box on the same day, 15th March 1840.
Sarah Jane was baptised at Box on 12th July 1840 'Sarah Jane - daughter of Philip and Rachel - Alderman - Hazelbury - Labourer'
Philip (child no.7) was baptised at Box on 4th June 1843 'Philip - son of Philip and Rachel - Alderman - Slaughterford - Labourer'.  His birth was registered on 03/07/1843.  The birth certificate states that he was born on 06/06/1843.
Mary Ann was baptised at Marshfield on 1st November 1846 'Mary Ann - daughter of Philip and Rachel - Alderman - Marsh - Labourer'.  Her birth was registered on 11/11/1846.  The certificate confirms that she was born on 30/09/1846.  Her father's occupation is given as Shepherd.  Mary never married - she looked after her father and ran the General Store in Yatton Keynell.  Her correspondence with her brother Joseph (who emigrated to Canada) has been kept by descendents in Canada and extracts of these can be read at the link below.
Job was baptised at Kington St Michael on 27th May 1849 'Job - son of Philip and Rachel - Alderman born Dec 16, 1848 - Kington St Michael - Labourer'.  His birth was registered a month later on 30/01/1849.  The certificate states that he was born on 23/12/1848 and was given the name William Thomas.  We are confident that this is the same person.
Joseph was baptised at Chippenham on 11th January 1852 'Philip and Rachel - Alderman - Allington - Labourer'
The birth of Joseph was registered on 29/12/1851. The birth certificate confirms that he was born on 01/12/1851 and adds the time of 6am at Lanhill Chippenham.  His father's occupation is given as shepherd.  Joseph emigrated to Canada in 1869. Mary Ann (who was living in Yatton Keynell) corresponded regularly with Joseph in Canada.  We are fortunate that her letters have been kept by the family in Canada as they give a detailed description of the goings on of the family members.  I have included extracts from some of these letters - those that refer to our direct line Philip Alderman and his daughter Elizabeth with her husband James Cleverly and those that refer to daughter Eliza and her husband John Cleverly.
