Joan's will reads as follows - some of it is very difficult to transcribe. My thanks to brother Mike for persevering with this. The term "Item" has been bolded to help the reader - it was not bolded in the original will.

T[estator] Johanne Thornehull

In the name of god amen The iiijth daye of December in the yere of orLorde god a thousand fyve jundred fiftie and seven and in the yeere of or most dradde [dread?] soveraigne Lord and Ladye Philip and Marye King and Queen of Englande xc [etc?] the iiijth and vth. I Johane Thornhulle of Thornehull in the Countie of Dors. widow being seeke of bodye but upon good remembrance doe make this my present testament and last will in manner and forme following First I bequeath my soule to allmighti god my Creator and to or Blessed Lady Sainte Mary his mother my Bodie to be buryed in the parishe churche of Stalbridge at whiche buriall I will that suche obsequies be done as it shalbe thought good by my oversere. Also I will that viij poore men attending the same buriall have anye one of them one gowne of blacke. Item I give to anye couple being marryed of the porest sorte within the said parishe of Stalbrigge iiij d and no other doale to be made for me. Item I give to the mother churche of Bristowe xij d. Item I give to my daughter Anne Mallaynes my best damaske gowne. Item to my daughter Margurete Willoughby my sartyn [satin?] gowne. Item to mestres Margery Pole a newe pece of tawny damaske of five yardes. Item I bequeath to my daughter Alice Bower one gowne of puke [a fine woollen cloth] furred wt faynes? Item I give to Mathewe Thornehull my sonne my Chayne Item I give to my sonne Robert Thornehull one Signette of golde wt the Armes of Paynes in the same It. I give to my daughter Gyfforde one ring of golde. Item I give to my daughter Anne Goddard one ringe of golde. Item I give to Grace Thornehull and Elisabeth Thornehull my daughters anye one of them one ringe of golde. Item I give to Gresagon [Chrysognoa] Gyfford daughter to my sonne Gifford vj L xiij s iiij d Item I wille that John Gyfforde and Thomas Mollens esquyers and William Hannan to be my overseers of this my present testament and last will, And also I wille that wheare William Thornehull my late husbande deceased by his last will and testament willed that the issues and profites of the Farmes of Uphaven? wt a mylle and a pasture called Widdenden? in the Countie of Wiltes. And also one pastur called Gadden? in the Countie of Dors. wt the stocke of Cattall upon the same shulde goe to the payment of his debtis, marriage of his two daughters, Legacies and funeral charge as by his said Will more plainely dothe appere Whiche said farmes pastures and stocks wt the profites of the same I will my said oversers shal have thuse ordre and custodye of the same in as ample and large manner as I have or shulde have had the same by the Lawe by vertue of my said husbandes last wille for the p[er]formance of the same. And also I give them or two of them full power and auctoritie by this my laste will to see the due execution of the same. And my executores shal have nothing to do there. Item I give to any of my overseers a gelding for there paynes. The rest of my goodes not bequeathed I give and beqth to Grace Thornehull and Elisabeth Thornehull my daughters Whome I make myn executrix That being Witnes p me Thomas Furden? ; Thomas Deboo? test
