James Thomas was an Independent Lay
Preacher. He was baptised at Walcot, St. Swithen's P.C. Bath.
James Thomas' death certificate gives his place of death as 15 Vineyards, Bath. He was 71 years of age, formerly a Draper, and the cause of death is given as Apoplexy 16 hours. The informant is E. Thomas, daughter, of 15 Bath Street, Bath.
Eliza Matilda Tuthill was born in Bristol. It is possible that her parents were Richard and Mary Tuthill Cordwainer of Wellington Street Bristol who were married in 1809 and had three children christened on 28/11/1830 at Christchurch Bristol. The children are Henry born 26/09/1815, Francis born 1/3/1819 and Harriett born 31/5/1823. The only concrete evidence is that Eliza had a father Richard Tuthill as stated on her marriage certificate.
Eliza's death certificate gives her place of death as 24 Richmond Place, Bath. She was 70 years of age, wife of James Thomas a Draper, and the cause of death is given as natural decay. The informant is M. Burnett, present at death, 23 Richmond Place, Bath.

Notes:
The 1841 census record is for a John Thomas who is a assistant tailor in Clifton working for the Bligh family. One of the sons is called Oliver Bligh. It is thought that John Thomas could be James. The reason for James calling his first son "Oliver Bligh Thomas" then becomes apparent!
